A correspondent for "Afrin Post" website revealed that the militia known as the "Military Police" affiliated with the "Turkish occupation forces" arrested Kurdish citizen Mohammed Mustafa Hassan, 48 years old, from the village of Sinara in the Shiye (Sheikh Al-Hadid) district of occupied Afrin region.
The correspondent explained that Hassan, who was residing in the city of Jindires, was arrested a few days after returning to his home from Lebanon, where he had arrived about ten days ago. The arrest came under the pretext of his previous work as an employee in the field of relief during the period when the region was managed by the Self-Administration.
This arrest comes in the context of a series of ongoing violations committed by Turkey and its militias against the indigenous population in Afrin, reflecting a systematic policy aimed at intimidating the residents and forcing them to leave their homes, in an attempt to change the demographic composition of the region and obliterate its original Kurdish identity.
Targeting returning civilians with charges related to their previous work with the Self-Administration constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and principles of international law. This incident highlights the urgent need for Turkey to leave Afrin and return it to the administration of its original Kurdish inhabitants, ensuring their rights and protection from persecution and forced displacement.
This deteriorating situation calls on the international community to take urgent action to put an end to these violations, and to pressure Turkey to stop its illegal practices in the region. It also emphasizes the necessity of ensuring a safe and dignified return for all those forcibly displaced from Afrin to their homes, without fear of prosecution or arbitrary arrest.
